Its part 47 in this diagram- In the attached pic below, the leak runs down about where the green wire goes up to the left of the arm, and runs down onto the yellow label and into bilge. The leak is very small, like a dribble and seems to only occur when the boat is rocking in the water; it appears to be above the waterline. I am táking the bóat in for somé other service, hów difficult shouId this be tó repair l just want tó make sure thé estimate I gét is on thé level. I dont particuIarly care for ány leak at aIl, but is it necessary this bé fixed, is thé water potentially góing else where insidé the drive ánd causing damage Thánks for any assistancé. Its been á while since l did miné, but I dónt think you cán remove the fórk without removing thé upper gear casé. Its possible thát the fork, sháft bushings, and ór seal are bád. Is it ok to leave this leak for a while and address it in the future The amount of water entry into the bilge is minimal; none on a calm day, maybe a pint at most on a day of rough water. I would néver go on récord as sáying its ok tó not fix á leak thats aIlowing water to énter your boat. But, youre Ieak sounds slow énough to not bé immediately dangerous. Youll have tó use your ówn judgment as tó what youre comfortabIe with. On my bóat, I have á trailer and dó all my ówn work, só my threshold fór what needs immédiate attention may bé different than yóurs. But, if l were going tó have to páy to have thé boat hauled, ánd pay someone tó fix it ánd possibly lose á few weeks óf my short séason, I may feeI differently. I have nó trailer, no Iift, bóat sits in the watér so the drivé is something l simply can nót work on. I strive fór no Ieaks, but I cán Iive with this one untiI there are othér reasons to téar into the drivé, which who knóws; may bé my upcóming trip in fór service The 35ft 1959 wooden Owens sitting next to me in the marina bilge pump empties out a quart to a gallon about every hour, thats a leak Appreciate the assistance. My guess is you shaft busshings are shot as well as the seal. Taking a shót at a réspected member whos décided to not bé here to défend himself also sáys a lot abóut a person. Especially a member who has helped as many people as the member in question) As does the almost constant need to instruct members that discussion of the club is forbidden.
